Position Summary:

The Butcher is responsible for delivering the highest level of customer service and satisfaction by cutting and trimming meat from larger, wholesale portion into steaks, chops, roasts, and other cuts; the meat is then prepared for sale, by performing various duties, but not limited to weighing meat, wrapping it and putting the meat out for display.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Cut and prepare all varieties and cuts of meat, including the safe operation of tools
  • Provide premier customer service, including greeting them and responding to any questions
  • Dynamically selling product by providing customers with information needed to make product-related decisions
  • Move meat from coolers to cutting areas and return meat to coolers
  • Receive, inspect, and store meat upon delivery, to ensure meat quality
  • Prepares and places meat cuts and products in display counter according to company policy and procedures so they appear attractive and appealing to customers
  • Ensure displays and case signs are updated appropriately and meat is merchandised
  • Prepare special cuts ordered by customers
  • Sharpen and adjust knives and cutting equipment when necessary
  • Wrap, weigh, label and price cuts of meat
  • Negotiate with representatives from supply companies to determine order details
  • Maintain proper date rotation of dated and undated products per Bently Ranch Meats policy, both in display case and storage cooler.
  • Estimate requirements and order or requisition meat supplies to maintain inventories
  • Store meats in refrigerators or freezers at the required temperature
  • Maintain clean equipment and work areas to maintain health and sanitation standards
  • Ensure proper sanitation and quality standards are met daily and adhere to Bently Ranch Meats policy
  • Responsibilities may include other perishable and non-perishable related duties necessary to maintain optimal store performance.
  • Other duties as assigned


Special Licenses and/or Certificates:

  • Valid Basic Class C driver’s license with the ability to be insured under the Company’s auto policy
  • Education and/or Experience:
  • Two (2) years of meat cutting experience
  • Computer and Software skills:
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of personal computers and peripherals; word processing and spreadsheet software; database software, e-mail and Internet.
  • Knowledge of Macintosh systems desired

  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.  Must be able to work with all levels of employees.
  • Exceptional mathematical ability.
  • Foster and maintain relationships that facilitate task accomplishments; cooperate to resolve conflicts, recognize needs and show sensitivity to others.
  • Receive guidance and supervision, follow work rules, safety practices, work procedures, meet deadlines, punctuality and attendance standards; work mandatory overtime, etc.
  • Perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure involving significant differences in technologies, techniques, procedures, environmental factors, physical demands, or work situations. 
  • Must comply with all workplace safety and rules of conduct.
